Progress

Week 1

In the first week, my project still hasn't been decided. I was going over ideas with teachers and friends. Until I came up with the idea of the Golden ratio/ Fibonacci spiral sculpture and the ideas of its connections in nature and history.

Week 3

This week I decided on the location of my project, which will be located on the second story above a hallway. I have decided on the materials that I will be using, which are metal, wood, glass and stone. I have chosen these materials because they have a connection to the elements. The specific materials are still being finalized because I need to think about how much they weigh, the projects dimensions, how it will be hung and the funding that I will be receiving.

Week 5

This week I spoke to Nigle about materials that I should be using for my first project because I need metal and wood that is are light weight but strong so they won't bend. I made a to scale 2D model of my scuplture so that I could get the proportins right to send to the metal manufacturer so that it can be put together and painted.

Week 7
Week 7

This week I went out to Mitre 10 and Herman Pacific to look a woods that would be appropriate for the framing. I have decided to use Cedar as my wood. I am still deciding on what metal I want to use. I wen to an aluminium specialist, Ullrich Aluminium, to talk to them about what metals would be best out of steel and aluminium. They believe that aluminium would be best as it is lighter and the cedar would be able to hold it's weight , but it is much more expensive compare to steel.

Week 2

During this week, I was going over the final plans for me project. I continued to get ideas and I got the idea to make three sculptures, one will be of a nautilus shell, another will be a Celtic carving, the last will be of a frame made from the Fibonacci tiling and the Fibonacci spiral.

Week 4

This week I finished my website, it is also mobile freindly so it is compatable with phones and tablets. It is ready to show the Principal to see if my idea can actually go forward. I presented my website to the Principal and she loved it. My next plan of attack is to book the space I will be using for each of my sculptures so that someone else won't try to use the same space. I need to now make a model of my first sculpture.

Week 6

This week I worked with my father to create a digital model of my first sculpture. I have decided to reverse the rolse of the wood and metal so the wood woll be the fram and the metal will be the spiral. I found a few errors in my plans, but they could be fixed easily with a few calculations and minor adjustments. I am settign up a budget plan for my project for that I need two quotes for each material. I will be going to Mitre10 to look at timber for my project and hopefully get some quotes for it.

Week 8

This week I changed the design of my metal to something much more simple and it will use a lot less metal than my previous plan. I spent the day makign a small model of how my plan new idea is to work and look.
